Bills’ Josh Allen shares his point of view on scary moment that everyone is talking about

BUFFALO BILLS NEWS

There’s a lot of talk going around about the hit that Josh Allen took in Sunday’s game between the Houston Texans and the Buffalo Bills, largely because of how his head hit the ground.

It wasn’t a great look. It’s fair to say that there would be concerns, optically, about Allen having a concussion.

What I don’t understand is all the chatter saying that Allen came out, they gave him some of Michael’s Secret Stuff, ignored the concussion protocol, and he went back into the game. Objectively, that’s incorrect. Here’s the hit he took.

It’s a hard hit. It’s even possible that Allen could have some delayed symptoms that pop up a day or two after the game. I’m not a neurologist and I don’t pretend to be one.

What I do know is that Allen sat up, and was able to get up and walk off the field, and didn’t appear to be woozy or dazed as he walked off. Again, that’s just my impression. I’m not a doctor.

Allen took the hit with 6:01 left in the game on a third down incompletion. Backup Mitch Trubisky began getting loose on the sideline, and the punt unit came out to punt it away to the Texans.

On the sideline, Allen was shown on the broadcast talking to members of the staff, shaking his head and saying that he’s okay. He gave a high five to wide receiver Keon Coleman.

After a minute or so, Allen was spotted going into the blue medical tent. The Charles Davis on the CBS broadcast said “I think they had to have called down from upstairs and said ‘you have to take a look.'”

Meanwhile, CJ Stroud and the Texans began their drive at their own two yard line.

“When Josh Allen came to the sideline, he was pointing to his chest and mouthing the word ‘chest,'” Evan Washburn, CBS’ sideline reporter during the game, said. “He has now, as you laid out, made his way into the blue tent with the unaffiliated neuro-trauma consultant. So, initial stages of the concussion protocol, and we’ll keep you updated as best we can.”

Houston had the ball for four plays before Dawuane Smoot knocked the ball out of Stroud’s hands, fumbling and giving it back over to Buffalo deep in Houston’s territory. When the Bills came back on the field, it was Trubisky that was in at quarterback at the 4:21 mark in the game, around 10 minutes of real time after Allen’s injury.

“Allen is out of the tent, and he put the helmet on. This might be one play for Trubisky,” CBS’ Ian Eagle said as Allen came running out of the tent. “And here he comes. Josh Allen is back.”

That’s how it played out. Allen went into the blue tent, he met with the independent neurologist, who cleared him to return to the game, so he did.

“Yeah, big shot to the chest and I rolled my ankle there. They flagged me for hitting my head, but I felt good enough to return to the game,” Allen said after the game.

What more do you guys want from Allen and the Bills in this situation? The most qualified person on the sideline to analyze Allen’s injury cleared him to return to the game, so he obviously did with his team down three points with just over four minutes to go with the ball in the red zone. He’s a competitor that wants to be out there, and the people in charge, outside the team, gave him the green light. The process was followed, and Allen went back in the game. Let’s move on.
